Every year, childhood cancer advocates from across the country gather in Washington, D.C., to make their voices heard. Action Days 2025, hosted by the Alliance for Childhood Cancer, took place on February 27–28, 2025, bringing together patients, survivors, families, and supporters to advocate for policies that directly impact children with cancer. This year saw the highest attendance ever, with about 350 advocates learning about the issues on Thursday and meeting with their congressmen and women on Friday. MIB Agents was honored to have a small but mighty group representing the osteosarcoma community at this impactful event.
Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death among children in the U.S., yet osteosarcoma, one of the most aggressive pediatric cancers, has seen little progress in treatment options for decades. Action Days provides a platform for advocates like MIB Agents to meet with members of Congress and their staff to push for vital legislation, increased funding for childhood cancer research, and improvements in care and survivorship programs. Our mission is to Make It Better for kids with osteosarcoma, and that means making our voices heard on Capitol Hill.
At Action Days 2025, our MIB Agents team participated in advocacy training, learned about key legislative issues, and shared personal stories in meetings with lawmakers. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow advocates and work toward meaningful change. While osteosarcoma may be considered a rare cancer, the impact on families is profound, and we made sure that decision-makers understood the urgent need for better treatments and more research funding.
This year, we had three major advocacy asks:
1. Prioritize a Childhood Cancer Package, which includes the Accelerating Kids Access toCare Act and the Give Kids a Chance Act.
2. Protect Federal Funding for Childhood Cancer Research, ensuring continued funding for the StarAct and the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative, both of which have been fully authorized and funded for the past several years.
3. Preserve Medicaid Coverage for Children and Families, ensuring access to essential medical care for childhood cancer patients.
Following a full day of advocacy training, the MIB team gathered for a Thursday night dinner to connect and reflect on the importance of our mission. Special thanks to Shelley Carter for the excellent restaurant recommendation and for treating us to delicious appetizers and desserts!
