Fall into Step with our Osteosarcoma Community

September was a whirlwind of activity, and we're thrilled to share the highlights with you! Our incredible Junior Advisory Board (JAB) Climbed Capitol Hill, advocating for crucial legislation to improve the lives of pediatric cancer patients. As OsteoWarriors, this was not the toughest hill they've climbed—but it’s a powerful example of how their collective experiences and strong voices help them summit each challenge. Meanwhile, I was across town at the White House for the Biden Cancer Moonshot Roundtable. With a small group of dedicated experts, we are making progress toward Better for Childhood Cancer.

This month, we are excited to shine a spotlight on the groundbreaking work of the Roberts Lab at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Their research is making strides in identifying new therapeutic strategies to prevent osteosarcoma metastasis.

As we roll into autumn, we encourage you to fall into step with us:

- Save the Date: Our 2025 FACTOR osteosarcoma conference will be held June 26-28 in Salt Lake City. Registration opens in February 2025. Submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation by January 10, 2025.

- Our 2025 OutSmarting Osteosarcoma grant cycle is now open and we are accepting Letters of Intent (LOIs). Submit a LOI by October 25th.

- Attend or submit a case for the 11/6 TURBO, our osteosarcoma tumor review board, an educational forum open to medical professionals.

- Order MIB OS Navigation packets and rack cards to inform families about MIB programs and resources.

Every step we take together, no matter how big or small, brings us closer to our goal of Making It Better. We're so grateful to have you by our side on this journey.

With hope and gratitude,

Ann

MIB Agents JAB Climb the Hill

The MIB Agents Junior Advisory Board is no stranger to climbing hills. These passionate patient advocates returned to Capitol Hill in September, working with Kids V Cancer to lead over 100 childhood cancer patients and survivors in advocating for the Give Kids a Chance Act and the Creating Hope Act with their Senators and Representatives.

Spotlight on the Roberts Lab at Nationwide

Ryan D. Roberts, MD, PhD is a physician for the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a principal investigator for the Center for Childhood Cancer at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and a member of the Translational Therapeutics research program at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. At the Roberts Lab, their primary focus is uncovering how osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, spreads to the lungs—the most common site of metastasis. By studying the molecular signals and interactions between cancer cells and the lung environment, the lab aims to identify new therapeutic strategies that could prevent metastasis and potentially save lives. Their cutting-edge research includes innovative cell culture systems, animal models, and advanced genomic techniques, pushing forward the boundaries of cancer treatment and offering hope for patients.

MIB Rack Cards for Clinics and Hospitals!

We introduced MIB Agents 4” X 9” Rack Cards in July, after a request from a wonderful OsteoMom who found us and wanted to be sure that other families could find out about MIB’s programs and resources while visiting a doctor’s office, hospital or clinic. Anyone can order rack cards with our MIB Agents OS Navigation Packets or rack cards alone.
